Lilly Broadcasting stations produce specials honoring MLK
As the nation celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior on January 21, Lilly Broadcasting stations provide special news programming to honor Rev. King.
The stations have a tradition of producing half hour news programs that look at the history and progress of the Civil Rights movement and talk with local leaders about Dr. King’s message. Erie News Now in Erie, PA presents “Erie Celebrates King” at 7:00pm on WICU with encore programs on CW and Erie News Now+ hosted by John Stehlin. WENY in Elmira, NY has titled its special “Keeping the Dream Alive” which is anchored by News Director Renata Stiehl and includes a special guest from Cornell University and the president of the local NAACP. On USVI-CBS, Kellie Meyer hosts and produces a half hour special that includes interviews with Lt. Governor Tregeza Roach, Ki’Andre Thomas of Ivanna Eudora Ken High School and Gregory Christian, Virgin Islands Montessori School and includes a story about eight students who received scholarships in Dr. King’s memory.
The Lilly Broadcasting Washington Bureau is also contributing content to each of the specials that honor Dr. King. The first national recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior holiday began in 1986.
